The Service of Remembrance for Mrs. June Beachy Beckett, age 97, of Inverness, Florida, will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness with Pastor Craig S. Davies officiating. Cremation will be under the direction of Hooper Crematory, Inverness, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010, at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Mrs. Beckett was born June 29, 1912, in Grantsville, MD, daughter of the late Joel and Etta (Livingood) Beachy. She died February 22, 2010, in Inverness, FL. She worked as a Registered Nurse and moved to Inverness, Florida, from Brecksville, OH, in 1972. In 1987, June and her husband, Herbert, were awarded the Silver Award from Hospice of Citrus County for their efforts in getting Hospice in the county. June and her family donated the train engine bell located in the bell tower on the Withlacoochee Trail on North Apopka. Mrs. Beckett was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness having served as a Ruling Elder and Clerk of the Session for 6 years, also as President of the Women's Association for 2 years. She is a life member of the Citrus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 27 years, a charter member and Past Matron of the Brecksville Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Brecksville, OH, a member of the Point O' Woods Country Club, and former member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club, where she enjoyed playing with the Women's Golf Association. She also enjoyed playing bridge and delivered meals on wheels until 4 weeks ago.
Mrs. Beckett was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Herbert M. Beckett, in 1989; 6 brothers: Forest, Walter, Irvin, Vernon, John and Roy Beachy; and 2 sisters, Ruby Bittinger and Pearl Rosenberger.
Survivors include daughter, Linda June Godby, and son, Donald (Joy) Beckett, both of Inverness, FL; sister, Evelyn Hewitt of Beverly Hills, FL; 3 granddaughters: Heather (Ricky) Cremans of Huntington, WV, Rebecca June (James) Soldan and Linda Ann Beckett, both of Cleveland, OH; 4 great-granddaughters; 4 great-grandsons; a dear niece and nephew, Helen and Robert Bernhard of Atlanta, GA; niece and nephew, Helen and Walter Beachy of Inverness, FL; niece, June Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; nephew, Bill Beachy of Baltimore, MD; a loving ex-daughter-in-law, Judith (Bob) DePalma; granddog, Roxanne; and grandcat, Cali. The family would like to thank June's caregiver, Opal Wulderk, and Hospice of Citrus County for the loving care June received in her final weeks.
