Jan David Baumgartner, 62, died at 3:23 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Regency Place in Fort Wayne. Mr. Baumgartner was born in Fort Wayne on Dec. 6, 1946 to Lloyd A. and Grace A. (Sides) Baumgartner.

A 1964 graduate of Elmhurst High School, Mr. Baumgartner served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and was a member of American Legion Post #111 of Bluffton. He was the owner and operator of L&J Trucking of Bluffton. From 1978 to 1997 he hauled for Sterling Casting Company, and from 1997 to 2003 he drove for Phillips Dodge Copper Products in Fort Wayne. Since 2003, he had been driving for S.R. Schaefer in Bluffton. He held memberships in the Crown Victoria Association and the 1949-53 Ford/Mercury Club. He lived in Wells County since 1987 and attended Life Christian Center in Bluffton.

Survivors include Penny L. Baumgartner of Fort Wayne; two sons, Michael D. Baumgartner of Fort Wayne and Jon D. Baumgartner of Bluffton; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Baumgartner of Florida; one nephew, Bob Baumgartner of Ohio; three nieces, Vicki Smith of New York and Lisa Hogge and Patty Rayner, both of Texas; and one granddaughter, Kylie Jo Baumgartner of Bluffton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd A. Baumgartner Jr.

Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed at the conclusion of the service at the funeral home by the American Legion Post #111 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home of Fort Wayne.
