LeRoy Victor Baumgartner, 82, a resident of rural Warren in Wells County, died at his home unexpectedly at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010.

Mr. Baumgartner served in the Army from 1946 to 1953 and was a prisoner of war for three years during the Korean War. He was a disabled American veteran and
was a member of American Legion Post 111 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2809.
He had been employed over the years at Habig Trucking, Sohigro Co., Schriver Farms, and the Co-Op in Geneva.

Mr. Baumgartner was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Adams County, to Emil Baumgartner and Ida Lash Baumgartner.

Survivors include four sons, Roy Lee (Athena) Baumgartner, Steven R. (Brenda) Baumgartner, and Donald L. (Laura) Baumgartner, all of Bluffton, and Richard W.
(Bonnie) Baumgartner of Warren; a daughter, Victoria Lynn Baumgartner of Claypool, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; four brothers,
Harry Baumgartner of Vera Cruz, Robert Baumgartner of Decatur, and Wilford Baumgartner and Emil "Junior" Baumgartner, both of Bluffton; and four sisters,
Mary Landis of South Whitley, Flossie Grabill of Ossian, Bernice Sipes of Portland, and Vivian Singleton of Bentonville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Susan Baumgartner, in 1979.

He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Marybelle Kahn Baumgartner, in 2004.

Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Lyle Breeding officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery at Bluffton.
Military graveside rites will be presented by members of American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Preferred memorials are to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
