According to his Washington State death record, Albert was the son of Albert Jefferson Bates and Elizabeth Dunlap. His wife was named Ida.

"Kent Resident Passes Away
Albert Jefferson Bates Jr., son of Albert Jefferson Bates and Elisa C. Bates, was born in Rising Sun, Wood County, Ohio, December 22, 1869, and passed away July 8th, 1922.
He was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Ida I. Van Ordstrand November 18, 1903 at Dodge City, Kansas. From this union four children survive: Beatrice, Blanche and John.
Deceased is survived also by his wife Mrs. A. J. Bates, and three brothers and two sisters - W. A. Bates, Bend, Oreg; Thos. Bates, Seattle; Wm. David A. Bates, Ocean Beach, Cal; Mrs. Wm. ..ebble, Los Cruces, New Mexico, and Mrs. J. H. Snyder.
He was a member of Valley Central Grange and was beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know him and he had no enemies, having that sterling quality of always holding his friends.
He was always a dutiful son and loving and kind husband, father and brother, and his untimely taking away will be regretted by all, as his place cannot be filled.
Funeral services, which were attended by many friends and the Valley Central Grange, were held in the Chittenden Parlors, Tuesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Spencer S. Sulliger, pastor of the First Methodist church, conducted the service at the parlors and the Valley Central Grange had the beautiful service of the Grange at the cemetery."
