J.L. Bates, 63 a resident of Cleveland, died wednesday in a local nursing home. He was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and was self-employed as a commercial painter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife: Thelma Bates; son David Bates, both of Cleveland, two daughters: Rebecca Stone and Roberta Eldridge, Cleveland; brother Oscar Bates Cookville; three sisters; Lowtrell Thompson and Losi Jones, Cleveland Lucille Grooms, Port Orange Fl, one half sister Charlotte Goforth Athens; four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am Thursday at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Rev. Roger Hobbs officiating. Grissom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
