Earl Bates Sr. Presque Isle 73. Died 4-22-1999, at Las Vegas. He was born 10-24-1925 in Presque Isle, the son of Eldon and Abby (Brooks) Bates. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a radio operator. He retired from MPS Co. in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Hayward Frazier Post No. 2599 VFW and was a ham radio operator, Extra Class. He is survived by his wife, Marie (McIntyre) Bates, a son and his wife, Edward and Pat Bates , 2 daughters and their husbands, Gloria and John Fletcher and Cheryl and Randy Holton, all of Presque Isle, grandchildren, Kurt and Lori Bates, Marty and Destini Bates all of Presque Isle, Earl Bates III of Connecticut, Julie. Jennifer and Angela Fletcher of Pennsylvania and Stephanie Holton of Presque Isle, great grandchildren, Drew and Camden Bates of Presque Isle, 2 sisters and their husbands, Christine and Kenneth Gilmore of Presque Isle and Joyce and Dana Fletcher of Mars Hill, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Earl Bates Jr. and brothers, Weldon and Ronald Bates. Burial FAirmount cemetery.
