A resident of Baton Rouge, she was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Bastrop, and she fought the good fight, has won the battle and went to be with Jesus on Sunday, July, 14, 2002.

Survived by her husband, Charles Bates; a daughter, Sherry Bates, Monroe; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Tamara Bates, Knoxville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, McKenna Fayeth and Madison Bates, Knoxville; a brother, Johnny Hargrove and wife Jackie, Moss Bluff; sisters, Juanita Yarbrough and husband Jack, Swartz, and Raye Parker and husband Lawrence, Grayson; mother, Louise Hargrove, Lake Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

She was a member of Comite Baptist Church and Sowers Sunday school class. Visitation at Comite Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Shane Pourciau.

Special thanks to Dr. Jed Morris, the nursing staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and devoted friends, Mike Lee and Rita Perkins.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Lupus Foundation or Debt Retirement Fund of Comite Baptist Church.
