Gertrude Billy Bates, 95, of Hayward, died Saturday, July 13 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital in Hayward.
Gertrude Willabelle Voight was born September 14, 1906 in Kramer, N.D., the daughter of William and Gertrude Voight. At the age of 15, Billy moved to Elgin, Ill. She was married to Norman Bates in Elgin, Ill. Norman passed away in 1988. Billy loved the outdoors. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, which she did up to the age of 90.
She is survived by two sons; one daughter; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; one granddaughter, Kim; seven brothers; and one sister.
A memorial service took place at noon, Wednesday, July 17 at the Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home in Hayward with the visitation having taken place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Tim Warner officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Northern Lights Christian Center at 15733 County Rd B in Hayward.
The Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
