Steele was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Clay County, the daughter of Hugh and Gladys (Jenkins) Bateman. She married Lester Steele Oct. 5, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Olney.
She is survived by her husband of Olney; a son, Bill Steele of Carlinville; a brother, Arkel Bateman of Bridgeport; five sisters, Codell Bateman of Olney, Imo Lee McCraw of Flora, Loma Lee Yates of Flora, Jean Porter of Muncie, Ind. and Mary Wehrheim of Olney; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sharon Rogers and a grandson, Shane Steele.
