Ada Catherine Dail was born 1881 in North Carolina. Her lineage has not been discovered by this researcher, but she is believed to be related to the Dail's prominent in Greene County in the 1850's - 1880's.

She was about age 17 when she married Micajah "Mike" Whitley, son of William James Whitley and Gatsey Speight of Greene Co. Their son, Walter Micajah "Mike" Whitley was born in August, 1899. By 1900 her husband had died, and the young widow was living with her widowed mother-in-law in Speights Bridge, Greene County.

In about 1903, the 22-year old widow married 29-year old farmer William Henry Bass and settled to farming in Speights Bridge. They would become parents to 6 known children -- all girls: May Lille Bass (ca. 1904), Patti Pauline Bass (ca. 1907), Lucinda Bass (ca. 1911), Ada Bell Bass (1912), Novella Bass (1915), and Blanch Bass (1918).

Ada was widowed a 2nd time when Henry passed in 1928 at age 54. She survived him 28 years, passing in 1956, one month shy of her 75th birthday.

With the exception of Novella, who is buried here, it is not known what became of her daughters. Son, Walter M. Whitely, carried the Bass name for some years, but is buried here as a Whitley.
