Mabel Louise Byrum Bass, 79, of 522 Evans-Bass Road, died Friday, May 13, 2005 in Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Bass was the daughter of the late Virginia Perry Byrum and Herbert Cleveland Byrum Sr.
Mrs. Bass was a lifelong member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church where she was involved in the Bertha Dail Circle; the Young at Heart Bible Study Group, and the Faye Ober Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer at Chowan Hospital and a member of the Gum Pond Home Demonstration Quilters Club. She also served as Cradle Roll director at Rocky Hock Baptist Church for 45 years.
Survivors include her husband, William Clarence Bass; three daughters, Nancy B. Morgan and her husband, James, Emily B. Byrum and her husband, Butch, and Lou Ann Elliott and her husband, Billy, all of Edenton; one son, William Thomas Bass and his wife, Janie, of Virginia Beach. Va.; one brother, Herbert Byrum Jr. of Edenton, N.C.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys King and Lucy Lane and one brother, Frank Byrum.

A celebration of Mrs. Bass' life will be held at 3:30 today, May 15, 2005 in Rocky Hock Baptist Church with the Rev. Meredith Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
