CADDO -- Graveside rites for Marie Bassett, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at Caddo Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Teel officiating.
Born Aug. 7, 1905, at Denton, Texas, to Barney and Lillian Smith Wood, she died May 1, 1997, at Pensacola, Fla., following an extended illness. She married H.F. Bassett on July 4, 1929, at Caddo. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Clifton and Clovis Wood, and a sister, Francis England.
A longtime Norman resident, Mrs. Bassett moved with her family to Caddo as a young girl. She graduated from high school at Caddo. She attended Southeastern State University prior to her marriage. She and her husband lived in Weleetka from 1930 until 1950 when they moved to Ardmore. Mrs. Bassett was an active member of the Methodist Church in Weleetka and Ardmore. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's group and other church organizations, as well as being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include one son, Harold, Pensacola; two daughters, Joyce Primm, Houston, and Barbara Beson, Lillian, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors, Norman.
