Thomas F, Basinger passed away at St. Peter's hospital with his family at his side early Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, due to heart complications.

He was born on June 5, 1925 in Connellsville, Pa., to Minnie and Thomas Basinger. He graduated from Midland High School in 1943 and joined the Navy in 1944. He served on the Hainsworth in the Pacific 5th Fleet during World War II and served on a destroyer during the Korean Conflict.

He married Kathleen "Cookie" Koch on Nov. 17, 1945. They were blessed with three children: Kathleen, Thomas and Linda.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; his daughter Kathleen of Atlanta, Ga., granddaughter Valerie (Casey) Balcerzak and great-grandson Alexander of Helena; son Tom (Kristin) and granddaughter Heather of Helena; Linda (John and Kalli Stangeland) of Helena and grandson Jeremy (Tracy) Wareham and great-grandson Kinden of Wolf Creek, and grandson Barry (B.J.) Wareham of Helena.

Tom worked for Mountain Bell for 36 years and volunteered for the Montana Talking Books program for 35 years. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his annual salmon fishing trips to Westport, Wash., and enjoyed sharing his catch with family and friends. His hobbies included fixing and assembling clocks, creating woodwork projects, gardening, especially growing "sweet peas"; and he loved and cared for all animals, especially cats and dogs, and was always willing to help with any project that needed to be done. He was a member of the Morning Star Lodge #5, a member of the Helena Scottish Rite, a member of the Algeria Shrine.

Although born in Pennsylvania, Tom considered himself to be a true Montanan. He was a dear husband, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a true friend. He will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the First Lutheran Church on 2231 Broadway with cremation following the service.

Memorials are suggested in Tom's name to:
