Albert C. Bascom, 84, of 1635 Blockville-Watts Flats Rd., died at 3:55 a.m. Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) in Heritage Green Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Jamestown, the son of Albert H. and Rose Bullock Bascom. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the original Barrage Balloon Outfit. Before retiring, he had been a self-employed steeple jack, building, repairing, and painting flag poles, church steeples, and factory smoke stacks locally and across the country. He was later employed by Dahlstom Metallic Door Co. as an electrician for 17 years. He was the most senior member of the Blockville United Methodist Church in length of membership, a life member of Heman Kent Post 777, The American Legion, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Jamestown Lodge 1681, the Harmony Sr. Citizens and the Harmony Historical Society, a member and the first male officer of the New York State Rural Letter Carriers Association, a former Republican Committee person, and was a former financial secretary for the union at Dahlstom Metallic Door Co. An avid golfer and bowler, he enjoyed meeting with his friends at McDonald’s for coffee and never missed eating breakfast, always believing it to be the most important meal of the day. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth ‘‘Betty’’ Whittier, whom he married April 17, 1949, in Clymer; three sons: Timothy L. Bascom of Kennedy, Todd L. Bascom of Alexandria, Va., and Thomas L. Bascom of McLean, Va.; two daughters: Terrill L. Forbes of Hampton, Va., and Trudy L. Derby of Ashville; 13 grandchildren: Timothy A., Linda M., Terri, Thomas L., and Kimberly R. Bascom, all of Kennedy, Keith Jr. and Terry L. Forbes, both of Hampton, Dylan W. and Jessica J. Derby, both of Lakewood, Joshua and Patrick Bascom, both of Ohio, Thomas L. Jr. and Helen E. Bascom, both of Virginia; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Almon H., Harold A., and Lauren Bascom; and six sisters: Aletha M. Ness, Carrie Rice, Ruby and Ruth Bascom, Winifred Peterson, and his twin, Alberta J. Wilcox.
