Hazel Mae (Bartow) Albonico was born on June 14, 1922 in Newport, Oregon. She passed away peacefully at her home in Windsor, California on January 16, 2011 surrounded by her family after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. Hazel was raised in McKinleyville and graduated from McKinleyville High School. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she cherished them very much. Growing beautiful flowers and gardening were her passions and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Hazel is survived by her loving family: daughter, Kathleen Nelsen; son, Robert F. Albonico; grandchildren, Brian Nelsen and his wife Karen, and Kevin Nelsen; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Nelsen and Makayla Nelsen, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Fred R. Albonico. Funeral service will be held at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street in Eureka on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Groe officiating.
