Edward Bartels was born on April 6, 1881 in Concordia, Lafayette County, Missouri to the parents of Friedrich Diedrich Heinrich and Anna Adeline Brinkhoff Bartels. The family were members of St. Paul's Luthern Church in Concordia, Missouri. Edward Bartels has lived in Arkansas as well in Kingfisher, Guymon, Optima, Kaw City as well as in Miami, Oklahoma. I believe he had worked with the railroads in Oklahoma. His last years were living on a farm east of Miami, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazerene, Miami,Ottawa County, Oklahoma.

He married Emma Wilhemina Sopfia Klingsick in 1907 at Guymon, Oklahoma. They had seven children, 27 grandchildren and 13 great grand children.
