OELWEIN — Eileen Lois Bartels, 87, of Oelwein and formerly of Westgate, died Friday. June 9, at UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
She was born May 23,1930, in Westgate, daughter of Rudolph and Agatha (Dettmering) Potratz.
Eileen graduated from West Central High School in 1947. She married Robert William Bartels on Aug. 24, 1947, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Westgate.
She was a book-keeper at First National Bank in Waterloo, Croell Readi-Mix in Sumner, and Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, and for 15 years at Geske's in Westgate.
Eileen was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate. After moving to Oelwein in 2002, she became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein.
Survivors: her husband; a daughter. Cynthia Bartels of Iowa City: a son, Steven (Sharon) of Lexington, Ill.; two grand-daughters, Whitney and Natalie; a brother, Rudolph Potratz of Iowa City; and three sisters, Doris Gruetzmacher of Oelwein, Verla Mullins of Center Point and Elinor Alshouse of Marion; many nieces and nephews; and two special people. Tyler and Mallory Hoobler.
Preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, Linda Gail Bartels in 1948; a brother, Milton Potratz; and four sisters, Marlys Homeyer, Paula Meyer, Rudina Dallenbach and Melba Huebner.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Peace Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with burial in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate. Visitation is 9 to II a.m. Tuesday at the church. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family.
Eileen was a devoted wife, mother and friend.
