Cryptside service will be held Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 2 o'clock at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville from 6 until 8 o'clock Saturday evening.
Mr. Barrs was born September 13, 1920 in Bamberg County, South Carolina, son of the late Vandy Lee Barrs and Katie O'Quinn Barrs.
He attended school in Bamberg County and graduated from Barber School.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the American Legion, Berkeley Shrine Club, Shriners International, Veterans of Foreign Wars, A.F.G.E., SC Board of Barber Examiners, Omar Shriners and was a life member and past master of Goose Creek Lodge 401.
He retired as a captain of the Fire Department with the Charleston Naval Weapons Station and later retired as a Municipal Judge of Goose Creek of 20 years.
He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Goose Creek.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter: Cleo Barrs of Goose Creek, Carolyn A. Bradford (Charles) of Goose Creek, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, 1 brother: Mayfield Barrs of Orangeburg. He was predeceased by his 2 sons: James H. Barrs and Carl V. Barrs, Jr.
