Former Seminole resident Winifred Helen "Gwen" (Sims) Barrett, 89, passed from this life Saturday, Sept. 29, at Ranch Terrace Nursing Home in Sapulpa.
She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Norge, Okla., to Charley Lewis Sims and Dolly Edith (Wheeler) Sims.
Mrs. Barrett married her husband Theodore William Barrett Nov. 18, 1933, in Duncan.
The Barretts lived in Seminole County from 1934 to 1959 and moved to Sapulpa in 1962. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a cook at both Varnum and Twin Oaks Schools. Gwen was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Shawnee.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Charley Lewis Sims and Dolly Edith (Wheeler) Sims; husband, Theodore William Barrett; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Reeves; and four brothers, Charlie Brady Sims, Eldon Sims, Tom Sims and Bobby Sims.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memory daughters and sons-in-laws, Erma June and "Sug" Hale of Las Animas, Colo., Doris Helen Freeman of East Point, Mich., Patricia Ann and Larry Neer of Oklahoma City, Starla Kay and Marlin Southerland of Sapulpa; one son and daughter-in-law, Teddy Mitchell and Sonya Barrett of Littleton, Color.; one son-in-law, Doyle Reeves of Dallas, Texas; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Dan Sims of Shawnee, Tony Sims of Penticton, British Columbia and Wesley and "Vi" Sims of Shawnee; one sister and a brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Bill Farris of Newalla; one sister-in-law, Sena Sims of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
