Retired Alliance Police Captain, Arlie M Barnhouse, 69, of 1015 Lilly Rd. died yesterday at 4:25p.m. at the City Hospital following several year's illness.
Capt. Barnhouse, whose city service covered nearly 40 years was appointed a third grade patrolman on Sept. 11, 1928. He advanced to second grade on march 14, 1929 and first grade on Sept. 14, 1929 and was named a captain on Dec. 12, 1946. He retired from the department on May 11, 1967.
Barnhouse served in the department during the depression era and early in his career was a motorcycle officer. He was injured on duty while in pursuit of a traffic violator, but returned to duty following his recovery.
Barnhouse was born in New Cumberland, W.Va., on Oct. 2, 1902, but had lived in Alliance since 1927. He was the son of the late Cramblit and Emma Sams Barnhouse.
He was a member of the Sebring Church of Christ, the J.E. McFadden Lodge F and AM and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73.
Survivors include his wife, Florence, of the home; two sons, a sister, five brothers and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry, and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Alice Swartz.
Funeral services will be held at the Walton-Schrader Funeral Home Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 7-9 p.m. Fraternal Order of Police services will be at 6:30 and McFadden Lodge services at 6:45.
