Mrs. Hazel Mixon Barnhill, 88, of Waycross died Thursday afternoon at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born in Charlton County to the late Harley Mixon and Eva Bourne Mixon.
Mrs. Barnhill had made Ware County her home for all of her life. She worked as a seamstress for Reuben Brothers Shoe Factory and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Luey Barnhill, two children, Billy Barnhill, Louise Tanner, a brother, Bruce Mixon, a sister, Juanita Thrift and a great great granddaughter, Eva Madge Nguyen.
She is survived by five grandchildren,
Jimmie Gilliard and his wife Rosie of Bickley,
David Tanner and his wife Angela of Bickley,
Tony Gilliard and his wife Belinda of Waycross,
Danny Barnhill and his wife Amy of Waycross,
Debbie Hinkle and her husband Richard of Waycross,
eight great grandchildren,
Nina Vick, Cassandra Vick, Matthew Barnhill, Blake Barnhill, Lauren Tanner, Michael Tanner, T.J. Gilliard, Jacob Bailey,
six great great grandchildren,
Trent Vick, Katelyn Vick, Alex Benitez, Allie Gilliard, Onya Gilliard, Matthew Gilliard,
a brother,
Jack Mixon and his wife Carolyn of Waresboro,
three sisters,
Lynette Crawford and her husband Bill of Marietta,
Kathleen Bragg of Palatka, Florida,
Verla Dean Melvin of Alabama,
and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Sunday in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5-7 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
