Louise Barnes Meston, 92, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada, where she lived for the past 20 years. She previously lived in Metz, Indiana, Roann, Indiana and Socorro, New Mexico. Louise was married to Malcolm Meston who served as pastor at several churches, including the Metz Christian Church, North Scott Christian Church and Roann Christian Church. As a pastor's wife, Louise actively served the churches as Sunday school teacher and member of the Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano, sometimes filling in for the church organist. When she was retired in Parry Sound, she became the full-time organist in The First Baptist Church there. She was loved and respected by all who knew her for her kind and caring nature. Nursing was Louise's occupation for most of her life. She spent many years at Cameron Hospital, DeKalb County Hospital and Wabash County Hospital. Her quiet kindness comforted many patients. Louise's hobbies included reading, baking, gardening, sewing and talking. She was an avid coffee drinker and chocoholic. Her favorite breakfast was cereal topped with chocolate ice cream. Her children will always remember her delicious fruit pies. Louise loved children, especially her own children, who looked to her for advice all of her 92 years. Her 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild delighted her immensely. For each of them she made a baby blanket lovingly stitched by hand. For Christmas and birthdays, she asked for pictures of the babies. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Zepha Barnes; her husband, Malcolm; and her sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her sister, Edith; and her nine children, Sandra (Fred) Pugh, Joplin, Mo.; Silvia (Lloyd) Lautzenhiser, Parry Sound, Ontario; Marilyn Robert) Shrode, San Antonio, Texas; Marcia (Dewey) Powers, Angola, Ind.; Virginia (William) Rathburn, Angola, Ind.; Vivian Hill, Chandler, Ariz.; Pamela (Joseph) Malpiedi, New York; Patricia (Rex) Baer, Roann, Ind.; and Mark (Libby) Meston, Pleasant lake, Ind. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Weicht Funeral Home in Angola, Ind., on Saturday, June 22, from 3-6 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Weicht Funeral Home on Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m., followed by burial in the Powers Cemetery in Steuben County. In memory of Louise, donations may be given to The Powers Cemetery Association or Parry Sound First Baptist Church.
