Joseph "Jodie" L. Barnes of Fayetteville died Sunday in Lincoln County Hospital following an extended illness. He was 81.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. today at Higgins Funeral Home with Elder Keith M. Wiseman officiating. Burial was in Barnes Cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Carmie Hughey Barnes. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura Vance Barnes of Fayetteville; a brother, Baxter Barnes of Roseburg, Oregon; a brother-in-law, Robert H. Vance of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
