His obituary:

George Walter Barnes, 60, of Fayetteville died Tuesday at his residence after a long illness.

The funeral service was Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home. The Rev. B. H. Berry officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of Pleas and Lorene Pitcock Barnes. He was a retired employee of Redstone Arsenal and a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Barnes was a member of Christian Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Childress Barnes; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Thornton and Mrs. Sue Wright, both of Fayetteville; a son, Charles Barnes of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.
