Mr. Amasa Lester Barnes, age 85, died Tuesday morning at about 6 o'clock at the Lincoln County Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 the Brogan Avenue Baptist Church Chapel, with Rev. D. D. Smothers officiating and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, with Ralston Chapel in charge of arrangements.
He was a retired farmer, and the son of the late Decatur and Josey Halbert Barnes, and was born and reared in Lincoln County. Mr. Barnes was a member of one of the pioneer families of Lincoln County, and was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow, Willie Sullivan Barnes; two step-daughters, Mrs. Mattie Lou Tucker of Skinem, and Mrs. Margaret Southerland of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, Houston Barnes of Fayetteville.
