Isabelle R. Barnes of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, March 27th at the age of 89. She was born in Asheboro, NC, the daughter of the late George M. Rush and Lena Monroe Rush. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert P. Barnes last March and her sisters Irene R. Combs and Frances R. Combs and brothers Charles Rush and Edward Rush.

Isabelle graduated from Asheboro High School in 1944 and St. Leo's School of Nursing in Greensboro, NC in 1947. She began her career in nursing at Randolph Hospital and later worked for Dr. Francis Barham for many years.

Isabelle first joined First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro then moved her membership to First United Methodist Church in 1963 when she married Robert. She was an active member of the D.W. Holt Sunday School class and United Methodist Women until she moved to Charlotte in 2010.

Isabelle is survived by her daughter Ann Barnes Walker and son-in-law Gregg Walker of Charlotte, NC. She was a wonderful Mam-Maw to her three grandsons, Nathan, Joshua and Eli Walker.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 12:30-1:45 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue Asheboro, NC. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Karen Moore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Aldersgate Supplemental Assistance Fund. Through this fund, Aldersgate, the continuing care community where Robert and Isabelle lived these past 7 years, is able to provide financial assistance to residents facing unexpected financial needs.
