SYRACUSE - Christy Cole Barnard peacefully returned to the presence of her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 24, 2010, after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Christy was born in Rexburg, Idaho to Boyd and Karen Cole. She remained in Rexburg during her youth and graduated from Madison High School in 1990. She then attended Utah State University where she met her eternal companion, Bruce Barnard. They were married in 1994 in the Logan LDS Temple. After graduation in 1995, Bruce and Christy lived a short time in Layton, Utah before finally residing in Syracuse, Utah. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Bailee, Zachary and Grady.

Christy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior with all her heart and served in many wonderful capacities. She was comforted by the blessings of the Gospel and the knowledge of Eternal Families. Christy was an outstanding high school teacher. She taught most of her career at Northridge High School in Layton, with the final few years at Syracuse High School. She loved her students with all her heart always making sure that each student understood the concepts being taught. She loved to teach business classes, with her passion being accounting. Christy received many accolades for her teaching efforts and was nominated on two different occasions for the prestigious Jon M. Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education.

Christy loved sports. She would often be found watching one of her favorite teams; the Utah Jazz, Chicago Bears, Ute football, and Arizona Wildcat basketball. She also loved to camp and fish with her family.

Surviving are her husband Bruce, daughter Bailee, son Zachary all of Syracuse, UT; parents Boyd and Karen Cole, brothers, Mark (Patti), Brad (Becky), sister Lisa Cole all of Idaho Falls, ID; father and mother-in-law Terry and Linda Barnard of Pleasant View; sister-in-law, Lisa Davis of Nashville, TN; great-grandparents, Roy and Jean Barnard of Brigham City; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Christy was preceded in death by her son Grady (2008), twin sister Dianne, and both grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Silver Lakes Ward, 3065 So. Bluff Road, Syracuse. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.

We would like to thank Dr. Sandra Buys and her loving staff for all their care and support. Also a special thanks to Vista Hospice Care.
