Arthur Lee Barker Of Edinburg Dies
EDINBURG - Arthur Lee Barker, former Edinburg postmaster and a carpenter for 30 years, died about 4 p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew county hospital. Mr. Barker, who lived on Edinburg route 2, had been a patient at the hospital the last three weeks. He was listed as 80 years old at the hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Apostolic Tabernacle church in Edinburg. The Rev. Grover Myers and the Rev. George Eagler will read the rites. Burial will be at Rest Haven cemetery in Edinburg. Persons may call at the Mutz funeral home.
He was a member of the Apostolic church and had lived in the Edinburg area the last 20 years. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of Huey and Sarah Barker.
Surviving with his wife, the former Miss Ollie Burton, whom he married March 16, 1924, are seven sons, Arlon, Orlie, Donald, Johnnie, Marvin and Calvin Barker, all of Edinburg, and Elmer Barker of New Orleans, la.; five daughters, Mrs. Verda Lovett, Mrs. Delcie Branigan, Mrs. Sally Streeval, and Miss Cathy Barker, all of Edinburg, and Mrs. Delma Keller of Houston, Tex.; three brothers, Calvin Barker of Abingdon, Va., Orlie Barker of Washington, D. C., and Jessie Barker of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Dora Blevins of Ravenna, Ohio, 20 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
