Eilert Ernest Frederick Bargen, eldest son of Carl A. Bargen and Mary Katherine (Grummert) Bargen, was born on November 7, 1910, near Superior, Nebraska. He passed away January 2, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 26 days. He lived his entire life in the Superior area.
Eilert was baptized December 4, 1910, at Salem Lutheran Church by Pastor A. Meyries, and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 5, 1925, at Salem Lutheran Church by Pastor P.E. Dtolz. He attended Smyrna rural school through the 8th grade, then worked on the family farm.
On April 3, 1934, he was united in marriage to Vernoye Bishop in her parents farm home near Hebron, Nebraska. This union was blessed with one son, Vic, who lives on the farm northwest of Superior.
During the depression years of the 1930's Eilert helped build the Champlin Telephone Line and also worked for the State of Nebraska when they were building the new Highway 14, working on the bridge crew. The family moved to their home they had built at 806 East 7th Street in Superior in October 1953. Eilert continued to farm and worked for Christensen's IH as a salesman for 29 years, retiring from that position in 1980.
Eilert had been a member of Centennial Lutheran Church for 39 years, having served as an elder of the Church, Chairman of the Mission Board, and in various positions on the Church Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Carl, Jr. and Frederick.
He is survived by his wife, Vernoye, of the home, his son Vic and wife, Marilyn, and one granddaughter, Kendra of rural Superior, 3 brothers, Alvin of Hardy; Orlin and wife, Blanche, and Leland and wife, Lyda, one sister, Ruby Wilton, all of Superior, a host of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 6, 1997, at 2:00 p.m. from the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Albrecht officiating. Music was "How Great Thou Art", "Blest Be The Tie That Binds", "I Know My Redeemer Lives", with Ruth Ann Moore as organist.
Pallbearers were Terry Bargen, Craig Meyer, Greg Meyer, Lynn Bargen, Vaughn Bargen, and Steve Bargen. Honorary pallbearers were, Kevin Bargen, Kent Bargen, Lowell Bargen, Dennis Wilton, Mark Bishop, Ron Bishop, Lonnie Bargen, Ron Wilton, Jim Bishop, Darrel Wilton, and Gayle Bishop.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
