NELSON, Neb. - Nila Barfknecht, 75, Nelson, died Friday, May 12, 2006.
Mrs. Barfknecht was born Nila Thayer on July 26, 1930, in Guide Rock. She was a farm wife.
Survivors include her husband, Everett, of Nelson; a sister, Wanda Adams of Superior; two brothers, Max Thayer of Republic, Kan., and Verle Thayer of Alliance, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Superior. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.

Nila Barfknecht, the daughter of Ira & Rose (White) Thayer was born July 26, 1930 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. She departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, NE. at the age of 75 years.
As a young girl Nila attended rural schools at the Blaine Center and East Brown both near Nelson, NE. She furthered her education by attending Nelson High School and then graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1948. After high school graduation Nila worked 24 years for Roy Christensen at International Harvester. In December of 1970 Nila was united in marriage to Everett R. Barfknecht at the First Presbyterian Church in Superior. The couple farmed in the Nelson/Superior area for many years.
Nila had been a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Superior. Nila had also been active in the Superior BPW Club, the Nelson VFW Auxiliary and the Abdal Club. In her younger years Nila enjoyed bowling and playing women's softball. In her spare time Nila had done cross-stitch as a hobby.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jerry, Wayne and Darrell Thayer; sisters Elaine Briggs and Muriel Ray.
Survivors include her husband Everett of Nelson, NE; sister Wanda Adams of Superior, NE; brothers Max Thayer of Republic, KS. and Verle Thayer of Alliance, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Superior with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.
