Hit By Car, Pedestrian Dies
A 71-year-old man died Sunday evening in Holy Cross Hospital shortly after he was struck by a car while walking across West Temple at Pierpont Ave. (240 South) at 6:30 p.m.
According to Police Officer Norman C. Thompson, who investigated, the victim. Henry Barela Sr. 1429 Hayes Ave. (940 South) was walking eastbound in the crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound car driven by Jann D. Squires, 25, 4259 Sovereign Way (3190 East).
Miss Squires told police she turned south at 2nd South and West Temple and was traveling at 20 miles per hour when she struck the victim. Mrs. Squires said she didn't see the victim until she hit him.
Police said investigation is continuing.
