Kentucky New Era pg 2 story reads as follows:

A county resident has died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities identified the victim as Herman Barefield, 85, of 855 Smith Road. Coroner Dorris Lamb said that the shooting occurred at Barefield's home Tuesday afternoon.

Barefield was pronounced dead at the scene by Lamb at 1:35 pm. Based on an investigation into the death, Lamb said he has ruled the death a suicide.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with burial in Lander Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 pm today at the funeral home.

A native of Trigg County, he was born March 10, 1903, the son of the late Sam and Mary Magdalene Stewart Barefield. He was a retired furniture upholsterer.

Survivors include a brother, Howard Barefield, Trigg County; and a brother in law with who he made his home, Rudolph Hewell, Hopkinsville.
