By the death of Mrs. Leonora C. Allen, 89, widow of Newton Allen, another old resident has been removed. Mrs. Allen was born in Shelburne Falls 89 years ago last January, the only daughter of Apollos and Lucinda Bardwell, and was the last in their family of four children. Mrs. Allen's three brothers were Apollos Jr., Darwin and Edwin Bardwell all late of Shelburne Falls. She had been in the enjoyment of excellent health and kept in touch with the affairs of the day to a remarkable degree, going to Buckland Center last week Monday to spend a few days visiting her old neighbors, when she was stricken down with paralysis Tuesday night. "Aunt Nora," as she was universally called, was a woman of rare personal traits of character, which endeared herself to all who know her. Of a bright and cheery nature she made many friends, with whom she was ever ready to cheer and help, going much among the sick and afflicted in her younger years before the days of trained nurses, where her counsel was of great value and much appreciated. Mrs. Allen had been a loyal member of the Baptist Church since her girlhood and sang in the choir of the church for many years often having the solo parts assigned to her. Her long life had been spent in Shelburne Falls and Buckland and she was closely identified with the historic events of the town, coming as she did from one of the pioneer families. Not being blessed with children of their own,she and her husband adopted a girl and boy. Miss Emma Allen died some years ago, and the son, Fred C. Allen of Northampton, survives her. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Mrs. Esther Bardwell, to whom she was much attached and had spent the past three years with her. There are also several nephews and nieces. the funeral was held from the home of Allen Bardwell on Mechanic Street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. H. Walker officiating. Interment in Arms Cemetery
