Born in southern Lancaster County to John Barclay 1746-1778 and Jean (Jane) Jameson (Jamison) d. 1789. Moved to Philadelphia to live with the family of Francis and Eleanor Bailey, Printer to Congress after her parents died.
Met John Young, a member of Bailey's early "Swedenborgian Reading Circle" and an immigrant lawyer from Scotland. The couple were married at Old Swede's Church in Philadelphia in Nov. 1794 by their friend Rev. Nicholas Collin.
Couple sat for portraits by Gilbert Stuart, then moved west to Greensburg, Westmoreland Co. where her husband started a law practice, and later became a noted Judge.
