Elizabeth Ann Abrahamson, 75, of Tower, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.

She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Liz was born in Virginia May 17, 1938, to Frank and Margaret (Rosman) Barboni and spent her childhood years growing up in Finntown. She was united in marriage to Ronald Lee Abrahamson Nov. 12, 1955. They resided on the “North Side” of Virginia and also spent fun-filled summers with family and friends at the Lavender Cabin on Lake Fourteen. In 1971, they moved to Lake Vermilion where they owned and operated Hearthside Homes for the Adult Developed Mentally Disabled until 1991.

Lizzy loved and cherished her family above all else. She was blessed to have her six children and nine grandchildren within three miles of her home for most of her adult life. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, leading them on outdoor adventures and joining them in an occasional wrestling match. Her playfulness included dressing up in some of the most imaginative Halloween costumes. She faithfully followed her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Liz was a fantastic cook and entertainer. Her family often requested her rigatoni and caramel rolls. She took pleasure in traveling and was always looking forward to the next road trip. Liz was a beautiful woman and had a great sense of style. She had a quick wit and great sense of humor that was evident when she shared her stories about growing up on “Railroad Avenue” with her brothers and sister.

All who happened by her home were amazed by her stunning and creative rock gardens. She was always willing to take frequent admirers on a tour of her life’s pleasure. She cherished her daily walks for a “good breath of fresh air.” Liz was an avid reader and loved feeding the birds.

She practiced her faith through her daily interactions with others and always had a very generous spirit. She was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. As Liz would say, “always remember you are loved!”

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ronald Abrahamson Sr. of Tower; children, Ronald (Pam Moraski) Abrahamson Jr., Stephen Abrahamson of Tower, Julie (John) Suihkonen of Kugler Township, Joan (David) Broten of Tower, Anthony Abrahamson of Soudan and Susan Abrahamson of Tower; grandchildren, Steve Abrahamson, Jacob Abrahamson, Synnöve Abrahamson, Dean Broten, Zachariah Schroeder, Alexander (Ashley) Suihkonen, Elizabeth Suihkonen, Barbara Broten and Christopher Suihkonen; brother, Frank (Kathryn) Barboni of Virginia; sister, Mary (Robert) Maki of Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Teresa Nuefelder of International Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Barboni.
