HAMPTON - Alfred Barber, 75, departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, in Newport News. He lived in Hampton all of his life. He retired from Fort Eustis as a food service worker in October 1987, after 30 years of service. Mr. Barber was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Alice Barber; wife, Lorraine Barber; sister, Kathleen Banks. Mr. Barber is survived by two sons, Victor Barber and Alexis B. Smith, of Hampton; three grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; four brothers, Lawrence of Rochester, N.Y., Nelson (Willie Mae), Earnest , and Leon Barber (Doris) all of Hampton; three sisters, Lucile Winder, Mildred Jordan (Harold) of Hampton, Julia Williams (Marvin) of Newport News; one sister in-law, Evelyn M. Brown of Hampton; an aunt, Hattie B. Smith of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and friends. A homegoing service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 171 Semple Farm Road, Hampton with the Rev. Walter Dean, officiating. Interment will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church by 9 a.m. Family and friends are asked to assemble by 10 a.m. at 1102 Victoria Blvd, Hampton. Viewing will be noon to 6 p.m. today. Arrangements by Smith Brothers Funeral Home, Hampton – 723-4117.
