Clytie Edgel Barber
"The Blanket Lady"
Clytie Mildred Edgel Barber, 98, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, in South Jordan, Utah. She was born March 31, 1914, in West Jordan, Utah, to Franklin and Mildred Warner Edgel. Mom graduated from Jordan High School. During World War II, she worked at Remington Arms and Hill Field. After the war, she worked in the nursery at Cottonwood Maternity Hospital and then in the office of Dr. Val Sundwall in Murray. She married Myron Barber on June 17, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Monticello, Utah, where they raised their children. Myron passed away in 1964. His passing left Mom to raise three little boys by herself. She ultimately provided for her sons after being elected in 1966 as San Juan County Clerk and Auditor and Clerk of the District Court in Monticello. She held these positions until retiring in 1983 at age 68. She had a great love for Monticello and San Juan County and the people there. She always felt her greatest achievement was providing for her sons through missions and higher education. She moved back to West Jordan in 1986. Mom loved flowers and plants of all kinds and took great satisfaction in working in her yard. After retiring, Mom began doing custom hemstitching work and crocheting baby receiving blankets for Mormon Handicraft. She loved keeping busy, and did so as long as her health allowed. Mom made many friends during her lifetime, most of whom have gone on before her. Mom is survived by her sons, Alan (Debbie); David (Joanie); Gary (Carolyn); daughter-in-law, Marilyn; stepson, Dan (Dixie); and by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Val (Alta) Edgel. Two grandchildren and five of her siblings preceded her in death. Words cannot fully express the gratitude we have for the staff at Carrington Court Memory Care in South Jordan for their loving and tender care of our mother. It wasn't always easy. We also thank her neighbors and home teachers in the West Jordan River 4th Ward who watched out for her when she was still in her own home. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State, Midvale, Utah. Viewing prior to services at 9:30 a.m. Burial following services in the Syracuse City Cemetery, Syracuse, Utah. In lieu of funeral flowers, give flowers to someone you love while they can still enjoy their beauty and sweet fragrance. Mom would have liked that.
