Peggy was a graduate of Bragtown High School and a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a home maker and chief cook of the Barber family and loved every moment of her “duties”. She loved the beach, Kerr Lake, swimming and the sun.
Peggy is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Womack “Buck” H. Barber, Jr.; her oldest son, Womack “Butch” H. Barber, III; brother, Walter Lenwood Hayes, Sr., and baby sister, Betsy H. Tilley.
She is survived by her son, Michael Lane Barber; her daughter, Holly B. Gilliam (Mike); her grandchildren, Jordan G. Belcher (Josh), Blake Gilliam, Raygan Gilliam; a great granddaughter, Ella Belcher; a sister, Carolyn H. Taylor and sister-in-law, Helen C. Hayes.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham by Rev. Jonathan Hendrickson. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
