Martha E. (Baptiste) Applewhite, 94 years old, died in Marian Manor on Friday, July 17, 2015 as a result of congestive heart failure and kidney failure. She was born in Taunton daughter of the late Frank and Elvira Josephine (Costa) Baptiste. She was a life long resident of Taunton and was educated in Taunton Schools. Martha was formerly em-ployed by Robertson Jewelry Firm in Attleboro, Longmeadow Nursing Home, and Paul A. Dever State School. She was very proud that she was a Poll Worker for the City of Taunton for many years. Martha was the widow of George Applewhite, a decorat-ed World War II veteran. For the past several years she lived with her sister and care giver, Mary Silva and her niece Roslyn Henderson of Taunton. Martha had no children, but she raised two sisters, Mary Silva and Esther Lopes and her niece Carolyn Perry. She was very family orientated, protective and excellent to every sister and brother and all their children. She was the sister of the late Walter and Elmer Baptistem Hazel Johnson, Elsie Barboza, Edward Costa and Esther Lopes. She was the aunt, great aunt and cousin of several. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, (route 138 South) Taunton on Interment St Joseph Cemetery.
