AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING MAN'S DEATH IN TRUCK FIRE
PLEASUREVILLE -- A volunteer firefighter was the first to spot a burning pickup Friday in Anderson County, but he was too late to save the man inside.
Robert Steven Banta, 27, of Lawrenceburg died in the late-model Ford due to smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, Coroner Bryan Ritchie said yesterday. The exact manner in which the incident occurred remains under investigation.
Mr. Banta, an employee of the Wilds Contracting Co. in Lawrenceburg, was picking up his truck from his boss's house on U.S. 127 after being out on a job, Ritchie said. It is customary for workers to leave their vehicles there, Ritchie said.
The funeral for Mr. Banta, the son of Robert and Patricia Banta, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sholar Funeral Home. Visitation is at 5 p.m. today.
