Artie Roscoe Banks Sr. served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a photographer for an engineering squadron.
Artie and his wife, Faye, were married in 1942 in Evanston, Wyo., they moved to Salt Lake City, where they lived for 26 years while he was a dining car waiter for Union Pacific Railroad.
After raising their six children, they moved to San Francisco in 1968, where they operated a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. Upon his retirement, they moved to Copperopolis in 1976.
He is survived by a brother, Frederick Early Banks, of Houston, Texas, and five children, Artiemissie Browne, of Copperopolis, Lillie Jue and her husband, David, of Redwood City, Charles Banks, of Reno, Althea Taylor and her husband, Ronald, of San Jose, and Toshiko Jones and her husband Tony, of Fresno; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Faye E. Banks, February 06, 1919 - January 22, 2007 and his eldest son, Artie R. Banks Jr., August 23, 1943 - March 14, 1997.
