Ivan Mullen Banks, 87, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004. He was the husband of Virgie Lee Banks for 67 years. Mr. Banks was born May 28, 1917, in Meadows of Dan, a son of the late Fred L.Banks and Sarah Jessup Banks. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Hospital Corpsman. He was retired from Limitorque where he worked as a machinist. He was a member of Vesta Seventh Day Adventist Church, Bedford Knife Club and Forest Hills Ruritan Club. He was very active in the senior program with Lynchburg Parks and Recreation and won various medals through his participation there.

In additon to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Banks Hall and husband, Carlton, of Evington; a son, Randall Banks of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Greg Holland of Lynchburg, Cheri Brown of Salisbury, N.C., and Michael Banks of Boston Mass.; five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane Pendleton of Meadows of Dan; and two special nephews, Cliff Bowman and Herman Bowman. In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters.
