MR. GILBERT BANKS DIED SUNDAY NIGHT

Mr. Gilbert Butler Banks passed into the Great Beyond last sunday evening at the home of Mrs. S. H. Jones. He had been ill for a long time, but all through the illness bore up with Christian fortitude and cheerfulness. He was the son of the late Dr. Henry W. Banks and Georgia Bulter Banks and was the last surviving member of the family.

Mr. Banks was born in Savannah seventy years ago, coming to Waynesboro when a young man, living here since. he filled many and various walks of life and always with credit to himself and employee, but his outstanding service was that of Postmaster during Wilson's administration. Mr. Banks was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and was well known and highly esteemed as a gentleman by all who knew him. He was an ardent Democrat all his life and when a weakness was shown or the principles of his party were violated he showed his utter disgust and remained truer, if such was possible to his party.

His remains were laid to rest at 5 o'clock, the funeral being held from his late residence at Mrs. Jones on Jones Avenue. Rev. J. B. Johnstone, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by Dr. J. P. McFerrin, conducting the services.
