Jean Marie Crookston Balls passed away February 14, 2013, at Legacy House Assisted Living Center in Logan. She was born February 5, 1925 in North Logan, Utah. She was the third of 7 children born to Spencer Cleveland and Josephine Reeder Crookston. She attended schools in Dayton, Idaho. She married Kendall Balls in the Logan LDS Temple on February 28, 1945.

As an active member of the LDS Church, Jean served in many callings including Relief Society President, Young Women's President and Primary President. Kendall and Jean served as ordinance workers in the Logan LDS Temple for 19 years.

She taught her children the value of hard work as she worked alongside them on the family farm. She took care of her families needs through baking, sewing and canning many fruits and vegetables. She was a wonderful cook. She worked for the school lunch program at West Side High School for many years.

Her interests included family, genealogy, quilting and crocheting. Many are the recipients of her handy-work. She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Egypt, the Holy Land, New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and on a Caribbean Cruise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her sisters Enid Foster and Josephine Olsen, brother-in-law Sherm McNeal, Val Helmandollar, LaWayne Olsen and sister-in-law Elsa Crookston.

She is survived by her children, Kendall Rodney (Ellen) of Roy, Marilyn (Brent) Schvaneveldt of American Falls, Twila Anderson of West Jordan and Seth Lynn (Patricia) of Logan. She is also survived by her sisters Carol McNeil, and Edith Helmandollar and brothers Spencer Crookston and Read (Barbara) Crookston. Her legacy includes 15 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren who all love her very much.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m Sunday Feb. 17, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday Feb. 18., at Allen Hall Mortuary. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday morning at the mortuary prior to the services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
