Rebecca Ann Ballard Cardon died Tuesday at the Logan LDS Hospital after a short illness. She was 94.

She was born Feb 8, 1878 in Logan in the Ballard home at 308 West 1st North to pioneer parents, Henry Ballard and Margaret McNeil Ballard. Her life was one of devotion to her church and she endured many pioneer experiences. She was present at the dedication, May 17, 1884 of the Logan Temple.

On Aug. 5, 1893 at the age of 15, she was called to be second counselor in the Primary of the Logan 2nd ward to President Sarah Farr. From this time forth for 50 years she worked in primary work, either on the stake board or in the ward. She was presented a 50 year service pin by the primary general board at general conference.

She married Louis S. Cardon in the Logan Temple on June 17, 1896. They had eight children.

Rebecca and Louis Cardon were always active in church and community. She was a temple officiator for several years. She was an officer in the Henry Ballard Camp of Daughters of Pioneers, and a relief society teacher for many years. She has done extensive genealogical research. In January, 1963, she was given the Honorary Golden Gleaner award by the Logan Stake at its conference.

Her husband passed away Dec. 14, 1930, and she has been widowed for 42 years. She was preceded in death by two sons, Louis Ballard Cardon and Paul Ballard Cardon. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Myrtle B. C=Shurtliff, Salt Lake City and the following daughters: Margaret C. Hickman, Rebecca C. Peterson and Edna C. Taylor, Logan; Helen C. Lamb, Hyde Park; Lucile C. Reading, Centerville, and Ruth C. Leonard, Farmington. She is also survived by a grandson, Louis C. Hickman, who was raised in her home, and by a cousin, Edna Davidson, who has made her home with the family since 1917. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in the Second Ward Chapel under the direction of Bishop Ivan Pedersen. Friends may call at the Hall Mortuary today from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
