U.S. Congressman. Born in near Falls Church, Virginia, he relocated to Ohio and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was deputy sheriff of Muskingum County, (1837-38), Sheriff of Muskingum County, (1839-43), a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1845-49) and editor of the Zanesville Courier. In 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and reelected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. After his term, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1860, practice law in Zanesville, Ohio and was Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives in the Thirty-seventh Congress, (1861-63). He was accidentally killed in a railroad train accident at age 61. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
