Funeral services for Donald L. Bakken, 69, Bode, were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, with burial in the St. Olaf Cemetery there. He died Thursday, Feb. 18 (1993), at his home in Bode.

The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements, with Pastor Mark Youngquist officiting. Miilitary graveside rites were performed by the Clover Leaf American Legion Post No. 524 of Bode.

Casketbearers were Dave Thilges, Alan Tofteberg, Elden Meyer, Richard Sorenson, Bob Hahn, and Curtis Bruvik. Honorary casketbearers were Marvin Andersen, Mervyn Johnson, Paul Klevos, Jerry Smith, Jerry Christianson, and Harold Kropf.

Survivors include his wife, Della; two daughters, Ruth Sorensen of Davenport and Jeanne Fevold of Humboldt; two sons, Paul Bakken of Ashland, WI, and Bruce Bakken of Bode; 13 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step great-grandchild; three sisters, Phyllis Rush of Jefferson, Arlene Siemens of Forest City and Lavonne Leverseige of Memphis, TN; and three brothers, Edwin Bakken of Webster City, Richard Bakken of Bode, and Robert Bakken of Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Margaret; and a granddaughter, Rachel.

Donald L. Bakken, son of Alvin and Margaret (Thorn) Bakken, was born April 30, 1923 near Bode, where he was raised and educated. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. Following the service, he returned to the Bode area, where in 1946 he was united in marriage to Della Janssen.

The couple farmed near Bode for 16 years, until moving to Bode where he was employed in several types of work, including serving as Bode's town constable. He was a patrol operator for Humboldt County, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Iowa State Police Association, the Iowa Sheriffs Association, and the Clover Leaf American Legion Post No. 524.
