Lawrence O. Larry Baker, 87, Burlingame, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his home. He was born May 19,1924 at Topeka, Kansas, the son of Herbert Teft and Edith Bell Musick Baker.

He grew up in Meriden, Kansas and graduated from Meriden High School. Larry worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Topeka, for several years, and later was a transportation driver for Pacific Intermountain Express. He owned and operated Baker's Thrift Store in Burlingame for over 30 years.

He married Margaret Peggy Hamacher, December 14, 1947, at Topeka, Kansas. They divorced in 1972. Peggy Allen survives at Osage City, Kansas. He married Shirley Kuebler, June 2, 1973, at Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death July 6, 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Cyndi Paul, Quenemo, KS; two sons, Al Baker, Burlingame, KS, and Lonnie Baker, Osage City, KS; a stepdaughter, Sally Downs, Topeka, KS; a sister, Betty DeWitt, Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Private inurnment will be in Burlingame Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Ramskill Chapel in Burlingame Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlingame First Responders, and sent c/o Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
