Katherine B. “Katie” Baker, Columbus, OH, on July 4, 2014 achieved her independence, went to be with Jesus, and was reunited with her parents and infant brother Paul. Born April 12, 1959 in Columbus to Joseph F. and Gertrude (Adams) Baker. Survived by siblings, Lisa Baker; Joseph and Pamela Baker, and children, Paul (Chase and Julia), Cristin and Nathanial Saguisi (Natalie), and Ryan and Sarah (Teddy); John and Karen Baker, and children, Laura and Andrew Rowe (Aiden), and Sarah and Patrick Gallagher (Emerson); Claire Allen-Baker, and children, Jennifer Naquin (Kaliegh and Jayden), Katherine Allen and Kyle Allen; and her fellow residents and staff at Goodwill Columbus. Katie called all her nieces and nephews her "babies." Even though Katie had Down Syndrome, she refused to be ignored. Katie would introduce herself to anyone she didn't recognize, loved to socialize, and when there was a wedding reception, was up front in trying to catch the bridal bouquet. If there was music, she wanted to dance. She had a strong work ethic, having worked over 30 years with ARC and SAGE Industries in their sheltered workshops, and CSD as a custodian in the State Office Tower. She enjoyed helping with household chores, taking care of her babies, and in later years, liked when they visited her group home so she could show them off to her fellow residents. TV Land was her favorite television channel. Katie liked to bowl and participated in the Special Olympics. While living with our dad in Florida she enjoyed playing the slots on the gambling ships and visiting the beach. She loved to travel with family throughout the United States and Europe. Her favorite foods were meatloaf, spaghetti and Reese’s butter cups. Katie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several years ago but it only became a major health issue in the past year and which ultimately contributed to her demise. She mourned the loss of “my mom” and “my dad” and couldn’t wait to see them again.Calling hours are Wednesday, July 9 at MAEDER QUINT TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High St., Columbus, from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Service at the funeral home on Thursday, at 11 a.m., with entombment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lockbourne.
