There is some disagreement as to the
children's birth dates, and only two of them have Pennsylvania death certificates, in no small part because three of the children died quite young.
In 1860, he was a carpenter living in Spring Township, Perry County,Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg,
October 21, 1862, mustered into federal service there November 2 as a private with Co. E, 173rd Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 17, 1863.
